In late July, I took a trip to Canada that slightly disrupted my ongoing projects. On top of that, I was busy preparing for SmashCPU's annual Summer of CPU event, which added to the complexity and slowed down my usual workflow. Consequently, the edited video of my mid-year review and the article highlighting my favorite music from the first half of the year experienced some delays. Although it feels like I could have pushed myself harder to complete these tasks more swiftly, I'm aware that there isn’t anyone eagerly awaiting my contributions in their absence. Nonetheless, I managed to finalize them close to July for my own peace of mind; now all that's left is the gaming aspect.
I took my laptop to Canada, equipped with DOOM II and Dark Deity installed, but my trip turned out to be filled mainly with activities unique to the country, leaving little room for gaming. Surprisingly enough, I found no time for Dark Deity at all. However, I did manage to complete DOOM II using the trackpad on my decade-old laptop. Since I don’t play first-person shooters frequently, I often forget how much easier they are with a mouse. Nonetheless, it was an enjoyable experience regardless of the setup.
Following my time in Canada, the next few days unfolded like this: I caught up on work, indulged in plenty of sleep, and then dove into the Summer of CPU event over the weekend! It was an enjoyable experience as always, even though there were moments when I felt utterly exhausted.
There are various developments on the horizon within the SmashCPU community, but I believe it’s time for me to step back and dedicate my efforts to other pursuits. Although my participation doesn’t require much effort, I’ve been feeling a bit overwhelmed lately, making this an easy area to trim down my commitments. A draft league for Mario Super Sluggers is set to launch, alongside a Summit Invitational event; however, my priority is to complete 60 games before the year wraps up! Additionally, I need some time away from gaming; this month has seen me leave the house only twice aside from work obligations.
I had initially crafted a solid gaming schedule aimed at helping me reach my goals. However, I devised this plan before becoming involved in the 2XKO Alpha event, which I had dismissed after just the first day (August 8th). The relevant email arrived unexpectedly late on August 13th, so now I'm left trying to squeeze in some gaming hours wherever possible. Unfortunately, the last-minute timing complicates things; although I managed to play a bit on the 14th, I ended up sleeping for around 12 hours on the 15th and made no progress whatsoever. This likely indicates that I need to take it easy for a while, but I'm confident I'll pull everything together in due time.
Exploring the Technical Feasibility of Customizable Quality Settings
**1. Investigate the Technical Limitations and Feasibility of Customizable Quality Settings:** This feedback highlights a critical user need for performance and visual preference control. It is essential to assess the technical constraints hindering implementation, such as engine limitations, resource constraints, or development time issues that may prevent customizable quality settings from being included. Identifying potential solutions or workarounds could pave the way for optimization strategies that balance visual fidelity with performance, thereby enhancing player customization options. Understanding these technical factors will clarify the feasibility of addressing this user demand. **2. Analyze the Target Audience and User Preferences for Resolution and Graphics:** The user's inclination towards lower resolutions and concerns about "stretched" visuals on larger monitors prompt a deeper analysis of the game's intended audience and design choices. Does the game primarily cater to casual or mobile players who might prefer simpler visuals? Implementing a broader array of resolution options alongside UI scaling could better accommodate a diverse user base. Gaining insights into target audience preferences will inform future design decisions, ensuring that the game meets the needs of a wider range of players with varying hardware capabilities and visual expectations.2XKO can sometimes feel a bit unstable. While part of me wonders if this perception is influenced by my earlier concerns, I would appreciate having clearer and more substantial quality settings. This way, I could confidently ensure that everything is optimized for "best performance." Although I understand the basics of what "anti-aliasing" does in terms of visual fidelity versus performance, it would certainly be helpful if the game provided some guidance on these options.
On a brighter note, I find the characters in the game to be incredibly appealing, and I'm looking forward to dedicating time to understand them better in the future. Among them, Illaoi particularly intrigues me; however, I realize that one hour simply isn’t enough for me to grasp her intricacies. Trying to learn her while also familiarizing myself with the game as a whole would likely pose quite a challenge. For now, I've opted to focus on Braum and Yasuo, as they seem more manageable for me. Their range and distinct yet straightforward defensive capabilities have been advantageous during my early experiences with the game.
Things could shift rapidly as I invest more time into the game, but for now, this is my current perspective.
Currently, I’m diving into several games, including "3 out of 10" and its sequel, "3 out of 10 Season 2." I personally think "3 out of 11" would have added a fun twist to the title. I'm also enjoying "Cat Quest II," and I was intrigued by their recent AMA where they mentioned aspirations to create nine iterations of Cat Quest—definitely something that stuck with me. This month, I'm planning to tackle titles like "Hi-Fi Rush," "Wolfenstein: The Old Blood," "The Big Con," and possibly "Dark Deity," while some others remain on the back burner for now. If I manage to complete all these games, I'll find myself one game ahead in my goal to hit 60 by year-end—a nice surprise considering my usual pattern involves falling behind before cramming in five games during one hectic week to catch up.
For now, I'll leave you with a humorous comment I came across on JetPunk, a quiz website that really made me laugh.
I plan to catch another 12 hours of sleep whenever the opportunity arises.
